Francis Guenette’s novels are best summed up in the words of the reviewers: well-told stories set against a stunning landscape; beautiful prose that had me longing for the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island; I hated for her books to end; characters you will come to know as friends.
She writes in the genre of character-driven, literary fiction that often deals with hard-hitting issues such as bullying, addiction, trauma, grief and loss, complicated family relationships, culture clashes and youth dynamics. And yet, life is more than hurdles to overcome. Humour overlays much of rural living and this is reflected in her work.
Author, educator, trauma counsellor – Francis has made the North Island her home for the past thirty-seven years. She has lived in Alert Bay, Port McNeill and now resides at Victoria Lake in an off-the-grid cabin with a view that inspires her daily writing. She is married to long-time Port Alice resident, Bruce Witzel who owns and operates Bruces Sunrise Contracting, a North Island building and renovation business. When not occupied by a local renovation, Bruce moonlights as an active promoter and distributor of Francis’ novels.
